On May 20, 1933 the government of the Byelorussian Soviet Socialist Republic (BSSR) passed Resolution №721 on establishing a new educational establishment, which originally was called the Institute of National Economy, its location being in Minsk. By the autumn of 1933, the BSSR State Planning Committee approved the statute of the Byelorussian State Institute of National Economy (BSINE) and a preparatory department for workers under it. On January 20, 1935 at the request of the faculty and staff, the BSSR government passed a decision to name the Institute in honor of V.V. Kuibyshev, whose name it had until 1992. As a sign of recognition of its achievements in training highly qualified specialists for national economy and developing scholarly research, BSINE was awarded with the Order of Red Banner of Labor on April 28, 1983. Further on, BSINE was transformed into the Belarus State Economic University (BSEU) on January 20, 1992 by the Republic of Belarus’ Council of Ministers’ Resolution. In 1997, the university was officially given the status of the leading educational establishment in the field of training cadres in economics.
