History
Founded in 1932, the Belarusian State Academy of Music (before 1992 — the A. V. Lunacharskiy Belarusian State Conservatory) is the major centre of Belarusian musical performing art, musicology and pedagogy. In 2000, the Academy of Music was awarded the status of the leading higher education establishment of the national system of musical art training. The Academy comprises six Departments, twenty-four Divisions, Opera Studio, Folk Music Study, Musical Problems Scientific and Research Laboratory, etc. The Pedagogical Department operates in Mogilyov, and Division Branches of the Academy were launched in Grodno, Brest, Gomel and Vitebsk. More than a half of the scientific and creative workers of the Academy have been rewarded with honorary titles; over 70 percent of them have scientific degrees and academic titles.
