History

The foundation of BTEU started in 1964 with the formation of the educational and consultative branch of the Moscow Cooperative Institute of Central Union of Consumer Cooperatives of the USSR (Centrosoyuz).
In 1968 the corresponding Department of Moscow Cooperative Institute began its work, on its base in 1975 the latter was reorganized in to the Branch of Gomel Cooperative Institute.
In  1979,  in  accordance  with  the  Resolution  of the Council of Ministers of the USSR № 632, Gomel Branch  became  an independent  higher  educational establishment - Gomel Cooperative Institute of Centrosoyuz.
Since 1992 up to nowadays Gomel Cooperative Institute is governed and owned by the Belarusian Republican Union of Consumer Cooperatives (Belcoopsoyuz) in connection with termination of Centrosoyuz of the USSR work.
After obtaining state accreditation as a higher educational establishment in 2001 Gomel Cooperative Institute was renamed into Belarusian Trade and Economics University of Consumer Cooperatives (BTEU).
In 2001-2002 academic years BTEU started the specialist training on the new academic programs according to the educational standards.
On 4th of May, 2005 the University was awarded the Honourable Certificate of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Belarus.
In September 2005 the magistrates’ courses were started at BTEU.
In November 2006 Belarusian Trade and Economics University of Consumer Cooperatives got attested (Certificate of the Control Department of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Belarus No.0000314 dated 18/12/2006).

Tuition fees (per year)

Preporatory studies – from $1100
Level 1 – from $1400 (full-time studies) 
Level 1 – from $810 (part-time). 

 Campus Information

Accommodation in the rooms for 2-3 students (2 rooms/1 bathroom).
There are 2-3 beds, a wardrobe, a table and chairs in the room.
There is a washstand, shower, a lavatory bowl and a mirror in the bathroom.
Weekly change of the linen.
There is a buffet, a first-aid post, a library, a psychologist’s consulting room, a hairdressing salon, a shoe repair shop in the hostel.
The hostels are situated in the part of the city with good infrastructure not far from the University. There is a market, shops, a bank, a post-office, internet, cafes, etc. near the hostels.
 

Sports Facilities
 
There are two sports halls, a hall for fitness in the sporting building BTEU.
Every year BTEU team takes part in the Student Games in football, indoor soccer, athletics, volleyball, arm wrestling, handball, basketball, table tennis; in the year-round Sports Contest of Gomel Universities in 11 kinds of sport; as well as in the Republican Sports Contest for the Educational Establishments of Consumer Cooperatives; and in the Regional Sports Contest.

Student Life

The students can demonstrate their talents in the studio of variety singing, ensemble of national instruments, dancing groups, KVN of student’s club. About 70 % of the students are engaged in creative groups of student’s club of BTEU, they are winners and participants of urban and district reviews of amateur performances.
