History
Educational Institution “Francisk Skorina Gomel State University” is the biggest educational-scientific and cultural centre of Byelorussian Polessye. It was founded in 1930 and at first it was “Gomel Agro-Pedagogical Institute” with two faculties. In 1933 it was reorganized into “Gomel Pedagogical Institute” and stayed in this status till 1969. On March 5, 1969 the institute was given the name of Chkalov V.P. On May 1, 1969 it was reorganized into “Gomel State University”. On November 29, 1988 the University was named after Francisk Skorina. At the present time the University includes 13 faculties, the training is carried out at 42 specialties and 69 specializations.

Campus Information
The living conditions: 2 students in a room. The hostel is of a corridor type. Shared shower rooms. The room for washing and ironing.
Sports Facilities
There is a stadium, recreation complex, which includes a gymnasium, 4 field houses, 1 shooting gallery, The Children Sport School “Skif” GSU, sports sections: aerobics, karate, weight lifting, power lifting, free-style wrestling, women’s volleyball, men’s mini-football, badminton. There is a scientific research laboratory of physical culture and sport; a museum- laboratory of sport achievements of Gomel; the student scientific circles. Among the graduates and students of the university there are 2 Olympic and 9 prize winners, a great quantity of prize winners of the world and Europe championships.

Student Life There is “The Youth Complex” which includes 1 show room. There are formations which include amateur as well as partially professional communities. 8 of them have got the title “People’s” (theatrical, dancing, etc.), there is a disco hall. The foreign students take an active part in: the cultural life of the faculties “The Days of the Faculties”, national parties of friendship.
