History
1968 — Foundation of Engineering Faculty of the Order of the Red Banner of Labour Belorussian Polytechnic Institute.
1973 — Organization of the Gomel Branch of the Order of the Red Banner of Labour Belorussian Polytechnic Institute.
1981 — Foundation of Gomel Polytechnic Institute.
In 1995 according to the Enactment of Belarusian Board of Ministers Gomel Polytechnic Institute was named after the outstanding aircraft designer Pavel Sukhoi. In 1998 the institute was reorganized into the P.O. Sukhoi State Technical University of Gomel following the certification results and accreditation and according to the order of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Belarus. The University provides training specialists in 21 specialities, 26 specializations and three branches. The number of graduates taken from the date of foundation of the University amounts up to 23 thousand.
In 1994 a Post Graduated Department was established. Nowadays the Department provides post-graduate students with training in 9 specialities.

| Campus Information
International students requesting housing are provided with hostel accommodation. Students live in blocks of two rooms with all modern conveniences; each room is for two or three beds. The hostels are equipped with furniture and required household equipment. |

Sports Facilities
Sports club comprises sections of 9 kinds of sport: arm wrestling (male, female), basketball (male), volleyball (male, female), weight lifting, track and field, table tennis, sports aerobics, mini football, handball (male).
Student Life
At the students’ amateur art activities club there are the following groups: folk song band “Slavianie”, folk dance group, variety dance group, pop-groups, amateur bard-singers club, club of intellectual games, school of variety singing.
